Charles Darwin, study of nematodes, micro-food webs, nematodes under different cultivation systems in the Mediterranean area, structure of nematode and microbial communities as an indicator, the advantages of forage mixtures over grass monocultures, soil biodiversity and plant health, water and nutrient use efficiency, extreme weather conditions.

 

“Endless forms most beautiful”, this phrase by Charles Darwin comes to my mind over and over again when I look at nematodes under a microscope. Not difficult to guess is my main interest the study of nematodes and micro-food webs under our feet in relation to climate change. My current research fits exactly in this topic: it is primary focused on nematodes under different cultivation systems in the Mediterranean area. I use the structure of nematode and microbial communities as an indicator to verify the advantages of forage mixtures over grass monocultures on soil biodiversity and plant health as well as water and nutrient use efficiency under the influence of less regular rainfall, higher temperature and more extreme weather conditions.
