Project: Chlamydomonas

I'm a M.Sc. Biophysics student who is currently working at the Hegemann lab as an assistant scientist with Olga Baidukova on her PhD project. We examine the effect of different mutations in the channelrhodopsins on the motility and phototaxis of C. reinhardtii. My job is to introduce targeted point mutations into the genome of the alge using the CRISPR-Cas9 system. Currently we are establishing voltage sensitive fluorescent proteins (VSFP) to examine in vivo light-activated photocurrents in C. reinhardtii cells.

I'm very interested in the work with CRISPR-Cas9 in C. reinhardtii and in its applications for synthetic biology. That's why I participated in the first ever iGem team of the Humboldt University in the year 2019 on a project called Chlamylicious. We developed a toolkit of genetic parts to help establish C. reinhardtii in synthetic biology and tested them using degradation of PET plastic as a proof of concept. Our team won a gold medal and the prize for best synthetic biology in plants. You can check out our project using this link: https://2019.igem.org/Team:Humboldt_Berlin

In my free time I enjoy reading books and playing music in local jam sessions.
