My main interest is to research the micro-fauna that thrives in biofilms occurring in cooling towers. As these biofilms are the habitat of the bacterium L. pneumophila, the causative agent of the Legionnaires’ disease, my current work is focused on disentangling the interactions between L. pneumophila and nematodes as their possible hosts and vectors. The aim of my research is to lay the foundation for improving hygienic refurbishment works in technical water systems such as cooling towers. Further, I am interested in the taxonomy of soil-living nematodes and keen on investigating the energy and nutrient flux from the plant into the nematode community to determine the structure and ecological condition of nematode-micro food webs.
